One of the best ways to create a value-added experience in your massage practice is to add stretch therapy.
In a 2020 abstract published on Pubmed, it was concluded that “whereas static stretching increases the flexibility it decreases the jumping performance of the athletes. On the other hand, the application of massage immediately following static stretching increases flexibility but does not reduce jumping performance. Considering the known negative acute effects of static stretching on performance, the application of massage is thought to be beneficial in alleviating such effects.”
So we know massage is great and stretch is great, but now we see that together, they have amazing results.
Even the Mayo Clinic agrees that stretching can improve flexibility which in turn can:
- Improve your performance in physical activities
- Decrease your risk of injuries
- Help your joints move through their full range of motion
- Increase muscle blood flow
- Enable your muscles to work most effectively
- Improve your ability to do daily activities
Many well-known chains now offer stretch therapy as an add-on to their regular massage services, while others do full-body stretch sessions.
Isn’t it time you added a little stretch to your toolbox?
